During Season 9, Episode 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean, the guests decided to stay up a bit later than most of the crew, leaving stewardesses Gael Cameron and Elena “Ellie” Dubaich scrambling to make mojitos, nachos, grilled cheeses — really anything they could muster up while chef Johnathan Shillingford was asleep. In a preview for Episode 2, which airs Monday, June 10, the evening continues — and causes a touch of drama in the morning.

How to Watch
Watch Below Deck Mediterranean on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on Peacock. Catch up on the Bravo app.
In the daylight, while discussing the guests’ 2 a.m. demands, Johnathan shares a different opinion than Chief Stew Aesha Scott on what should’ve been done in the early hours.

“Did you hear what happened? They tried to wake me up last night,” he tells Aesha in the above clip. “Ellie came in and said ‘They asked for mac and cheese,’ and I said, ‘I’m sorry, I can’t.’ I think she was maybe overwhelmed because she said they were asking for drinks, but I was waking up this morning at six. I couldn’t.”

After a couple of “hmm” acknowledgements, Aesha responds. “To be fair, they said they wanted late night snacks,” she says, to which Johnathan responds “Okay.”

Ultimately, Chef Jono Shillingford was proud of himself for standing his ground and staying rested.

“Last night, I am happy that I did not betray myself,” says the chef while explaining his decision to remain in bed. “Standing up for myself has always been an issue for me, particularly growing up in the closet, so I have to stick with myself and I’m proud of that. I have to do me.”
