Below Deck Mediterranean’s Kyle Viljoen hinted he’s retiring from the franchise while teasing a piece of big news. The South African man was a major part of Below Deck Med seasons 7 and 8. He was the second steward on Captain Sandy Yawn’s yachts and the prime reason for the onscreen drama. During his recent journey on Below Deck Med season 8, Kyle caused a big feud between his former friend Natalya Scudder and new chief stew, Tumi Mhlongo. He then unapologetically lashed out at Natalya, which caused her to quit mid-season. Captain Sandy was furious at Kyle and was on the verge of firing him. However, she felt pity and gave him a chance.
Kyle stood out as the main villain of Below Deck Med season 8. As a result, he was met with a lot of vitriol online. While Captain Sandy didn’t fire him during the season, critics may get their wish fulfilled as Kyle recently shared a big update about his retirement from Below Deck Mediterranean.
The second steward recently wrote a goodbye message on Instagram to everyone who believed in him. He thanked his mentors and producers, and said farewell to everyone who gave him a chance. Kyle wrote, “It’s a wrap for me,” adding that he was consistently authentic throughout his journey with the Below Deck franchise. As if this post wasn’t clear enough, he replied to some fans in the comments section and said outright that he’s done with Below Deck Med.

While Kyle did say goodbye, he didn’t leave his followers hanging. He left with a little tease, sharing that it wasn’t the end of him. Kyle wrote, “Ready for my next announcement?” implying that he has something big to reveal. Below Deck fans and stars liked Kyle’s post and thanked him for being part of the crew. Captain Sandy commented, “So proud of you Kyle,” telling him to never stop being himself. A social media user showed her excitement for Kyle’s future and told him he’s “dramatic as h***, warm-hearted with a beautiful soul.” Captain Glenn Shephard liked the post, sparking rumors that Kyle may be heading to Below Deck Sailing Yacht next.
It’s great to see Kyle share this post and acknowledge his exit from Below Deck Med. Many cast members don’t always share their thoughts about their onscreen journeys and, instead, disappear into obscurity after appearing on the show. However, the South African reality star chose to go out with a bang, just as dramatic as his run on the Below Deck franchise. Kyle was an essential part of Below Deck Med, as he was responsible for most of the drama on the show. He was the reason why Tumi had a toxic feud with Natalya and the cause of Natalya’s exit from the show, causing endless drama on the yacht and creating entertaining TV moments.
While Kyle said goodbye, he didn’t apologize to the people he had wronged. Instead, he talked about himself and his authenticity on Below Deck Med. It would’ve been great if Kyle had said a few words to his former friend, Natalya. He had the opportunity to end his journey on a great note but chose to conclude it with narcissism and a complete lack of self-awareness. Even former crew members like Gary King apologized publicly for their bad actions, letting fans know they’ll do better next time. However, Kyle just seemed self-centered and unbothered by the terrible way he acted to the people he called his friends on Below Deck Mediterranean.
