Below Deck Down Under- Fans are curious about the identity of Joao Franco’s ex-fiance and the reason behind their breakup.

After calling things off with his ex-fiancée, Michelle Dicu, Below Deck Down Under star João Franco could be dating someone new in 2023.

The Below Deck franchise has showcased both brief flings and meaningful relationships among its cast members, providing viewers with drama and romance.
João Franco, the new Bosun in Below Deck Down Under season 2, was previously engaged to a woman named Michelle Dicu, but they broke up due to the hardships of COVID, career paths, and distance.
João has since found a new partner named Domi Tiesi, who works in the yachting industry, but it is unclear if there will be any on-screen romance for him in the current season.

João Franco from Below Deck Down Under season 2 had an interesting relationship with his former partner. The hit reality TV franchise began in 2013 and entertained viewers with drama and adventures. One of Below Deck’s staple features is the many romances that have blossomed over the years. During season 1, viewers saw the brief fling between Stewardess Samantha Orme and Second Engineer C.J. LeBeau. Fast forward to 2023, Below Deck Sailing Yacht showcased two major love triangles between the main cast. It involved Gary King, Colin Macrae, Daisy Kelliher, Mads, and Alex Propson.

Besides brief flings, the Below Deck franchise has featured meaningful relationships between cast members. One example is Gabriela Barragan and Wes O’Dell, who featured on separate shows. Despite the age gap, the two were able to date each other for months and form a normal, healthy relationship. Malia White and Tom Checketts developed a great relationship after Below Deck Mediterranean. While they didn’t last, they were able to share some great moments. Below Deck Down Under season 2 has just begun in July but has already surprised fans with on-screen romances.

Below Deck Down Under season 2 features many new cast members. However, the new Bosun, João, is among the most interesting. The 32-year-old Zimbabwe native previously appeared on Below Deck Mediterranean seasons 3 and 4. Therefore, his life has been like an open book in the franchise. João was engaged to a woman named Michelle Dicu a few years ago. The two were deeply in love, and the 32-year-old was excited about his future. In 2020 (via Bravo TV), the young Bosun even shared that he had “never felt a happiness so true” than to be with his partner, Michelle.

Unfortunately, João plans with his fiancée didn’t come to fruition. In 2021, the 32-year-old Bosun revealed he was no longer engaged to Michelle in an Instagram post. He wrote, “The hardships of COVID, career paths, and distance we didn’t make it through.” João shared that he had no hard feelings for his ex-lover. He said he’ll never forget the love he shared with her or that she was “nothing short of extraordinary.” The Below Deck star concluded his post by sharing that he and his ex-lover are happy. He added a few hashtags that suggested he was moving forward with no regrets.

However, during the latest episode of Below Deck Down Under, João brought up his relationship with Michelle and said he gave her many chances, even after catching her cheating and lying. He explained that he went to a really dark place after that relationship. João further stated, “Because of having given someone all my vulnerability, I feel like I could never go back to that place where I could just be so trusting.” It’s clear that Joao got burned in his engagement to Michelle.

It is sad to hear that João’s former relationship didn’t work out. João was single during filming for Below Deck Down Under season 2 but has since been snatched up. His latest slew of posts since July 2022 have largely been photos with a woman named Domi Tiesi. She appears to also work in the yachting industry, and she and João have photos in uniform together. Whether Below Deck Down Under season 2 viewers will see any romance for João before the season is up is still unknown.

Below Deck Down Under airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.
