However, his culinary skills came under scrutiny after he served cold eggs during a charter, leading to dissatisfaction among guests and his poor cooking performance only seemed to escalate. Chef Johnathan posted a fun video on his Instagram, showcasing a tutorial on cooking Japanese Wagyu. In the video, he detailed his Wagyu cooking plans, accompanied by entertaining commentary. “Canapés? Cocktails? At sunset? YES PLEASE,” he expressed in the caption.
He also demonstrated his plating and blow torch skills. This recent video seemed to be Chef Johnathan’s way of demonstrating his proficiency in the kitchen, aiming to address previous criticism about his cooking abilities.

Chef Johnathan’s cooking hasn’t received positive feedback and has nearly resulted in his dismissal by Captain Sandy. Aside from his previous drama with second stew Ellie Dubaich earlier in the season, Chef Johnathan’s cooking experience, or lack thereof, took front and center this season. He started Below Deck Med season 9 eager to show off his five years of self-taught chef experience. However, when he served cold eggs, Captain Sandy had to provide critiques on his dishes and the expected standard of all staff members. This seemed to motivate Chef Johnathan to improve.
Throughout the entirety of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, almost the entire crew aboardthe Mustique has been plagued with poor performancethat has called for the firing of more than one crew member. After it seemed that Chef Johnthan had made a turnaround in his poor performance, a near-fatal catastrophe aboard the Mustique could lead to his ultimate firing in a future episode. Either way, Johnathan made progress that seemed to only resort to his previous performance, which spelled trouble for his place aboard the yacht in the long haul.
As cast members decide whether they are returning for Below Deck Mediterranean season 10, the drama and chaos of this season will be missed. From the love triangles to the overall poor performance of everyone aboard, minus Captain Sandy, Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 has been one for the books. Johnathan’s poor performance was only part of the chaotic season, yet, he is still trying to repair his reputation in the culinary world. Hopefully, Chef Johnathan will be able to redeem himself on another season of Below Deck Mediterranean.
