Blue Bloods gets season 14 release date (and it’s soon!)

The good news keeps on coming. The actors strike was resolved in November, which means that scripted TV shows like Blue Bloods will be able to start production. It’s a long time coming, since the show was originally supposed to air during the fall, but the recent announcements from CBS confirm that fans won’t have to wait much longer.

According to TV Insider, Blue Bloods season 14 will premiere on Friday, February 16. This is a huge development for the procedural drama, which will be aiming to start filming in November or early December, depending on how early the sets will be ready. The decision to release the show in February makes sense, given that the writers, showrunners, and actors will need time to work on the new batch of episodes.

When is the Blue Bloods season 14 premiere date?

Generally speaking, production on Blue Bloods starts up during the summer, and a new season premieres in September. The writers and actors strike radically changed things, of course, and there was a period of time in which it looked like Blue Bloods wouldn’t be ready until the fall of 2024. That would have meant an entire year without new episodes, which would have been devastating on the future of the show.

The decision was already made by stars Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan to take pay cuts, so that the crew members for Blue Bloods could keep their jobs. There’s no word yet on whether the show will be renewed for an additional season, but given that season 14 will be the shortest yet, we assume there are still plenty of stories left to tell in the future.

The upcoming season will have 10-13 episodes, which makes sense given the relatively small window the writers and actors will have to work on it. The show will fill its usual time slot of 10 p.m. on Friday nights, which means it will follow the return of other scripted shows like S.W.A.T. (airing 8 p.m.) and Fire Country (airing 9 p.m.).

Details regarding the plot of season 14 have yet to be released, but honestly, we’re just happy to have new episodes on the way.
