The three Blue Bloods episodes are most despised by fans

“Blue Bloods” continues to perform well for CBS in its Friday night time slot after more than a decade on the air. Police procedurals have proven to be a strong and enduring force on network television.

“Blue Bloods” fans are a very dedicated group, as evidenced by the ratings. While “Blue Bloods” recently failed to average the 14.07 million viewers (via Deadline) it did in Season 7, the show still pulled in a steady 6 million viewers midway through Season 12 (via TV Series Finale).

However, no series is perfect, and this is especially true of any series with nearly 250 episodes (according to IMDb). Just like “Lost” has “Exposé,” “Stranger Things” has “The Lost Sister” and “Dexter” has “Remember the Monsters?.”

“Blue Bloods” had a few episodes that fans didn’t like. Consider the three lowest-rated episodes of “Blue Bloods.”

S5. The E3 bridge is burning

According to IMDb, “Blue Bloods” Season 5, Episode 3 is the episode with the lowest rating of the series. The episode titled “Burning Bridges” received 6.7 stars out of 10, well below the series average of 7.6 stars. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “when an officer goes out and his partner refuses to go with him, Danny and Baez are asked to temporarily work with new partners; Eddie and James try to steal a necklace from a pompous detective; Frank speaks out for equality in the force.”

So which part of the episode did IMDb reviewers find particularly disturbing? In a review titled “Weak and Inconsistent Plot,” IMDb writer Phil-58620 detailed his problems with two interconnected storylines. According to Phil-58620, “this episode attempts to address homosexual bias in the police force and brings in Catholicism only to insult both institutions.” Phil-58620 admitted that he initially found the plot intriguing, but called the episode “a missed opportunity to show maturity among the officers and convey how the Reagans drew strength and clarity from their religion as they had in previous episodes.”

Several other negative reviews mentioned the episode’s plot as timely. However, a critic named Edwagreen chose to stand out from the crowd and gave the episode 10/10 stars, calling it “excellent.”

Heritage

After “Burning Bridges,” the second worst-rated episode of “Blue Bloods” is Season 8, Episode 15, titled “Legacy.” According to IMDb, the episode received a rating of 6.8 out of 10 stars. The majority of IMDb’s reviews focus on the machinations of New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). An officer was involved in a viral video accused of racial profiling near the beginning of the episode. Frank decided to dismiss the officer after meeting with her and consulting with his advisors. It was a controversial decision that Frank clearly didn’t like making, but in the end he stood by it.

However, some IMDb reviewers criticized Frank’s choice. Sbc17644 gave the episode one out of ten stars in a review titled “Disliked”, saying, “Frank is too unusual.” He always protects his police. This episode is absolutely unbelievable. What happened to the text? If this continues, you will lose me as a viewer. Be realistic and leave your agenda at the door.”

Joogers-02938, who asked, “What happened to Sheriff Frank Reagan?” posted the most positive IMDb review. “These writers changed the character of Frank Reagan from a proud, confident leader who always supported his officers,” the writer continued and then added, “In this episode, the First we see a tired-looking Frank Reagan.” He gave in to political correctness and threw a good officer of the law under the bus.”

Win over injury

Although some may not remember, Whoopi Goldberg appeared in three episodes of “Blue Bloods.” The “Sister Act” actress was most recently seen in Season 11, Episode 1 as Regina Thomas. “Triumph Over Trauma” is the episode with the third lowest rating in the series, with only 6.9/10 stars on IMDb. So, what is it about this episode of “Blue Bloods” that makes fans feel so uncomfortable?

Jduyrhfngj, an IMDb user, left a review on the site stating their opinion in the title alone. Jduyrhfngj stated in a review titled “Deserving of a 0 rating,” “It is simply the worst of the entire series.” Ignoring the Whoopi segments, I would give this a 5 because the Danny and Baez segments were simply unbelievable.” Jduyrhfngj later said that, although they disliked the episode for many reasons, they were particularly stimulated by Goldberg’s portrayal.

Jduyrhfngj ends the review with a direct message to the show’s creators: “To the showrunners [sic] and writers: we, the real fans, hate her and don’t want her he came back.” While Jduyrhfngj was the most outspoken, they weren’t the only IMDb users to express dissatisfaction with Goldberg’s appearance. Another user titled the review “Whoops” and gave the episode 5/10 stars.

While none of these three episodes seem to be particularly well-received by fans, the most recent episode of “Blue Bloods” shows that the show is still doing well. Season 12, Episode 7 broadcast on November 19 currently has an average rating of 7.7 on IMDb.
