Blue Bloods is bringing back [Spoiler] – And it could be bad news for Danny

As Blue Bloods enters its final season, fans can expect to see a few familiar faces before the long-running CBS series finally debuts. So far, at least one alum has been confirmed to return, and the cameo could put Donny Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, in a moral dilemma. Read on to find out who will return to Blue Bloods in Season 14.

Blue Bloods is CBS’s popular police procedural. It focuses on the fictional Reagan family with a long history in law enforcement. The series first premiered in September 2010 and has anchored CBS’s Friday night lineup since its debut. The film stars Wahlberg, Tom Selleck, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Abigail Hawk, Vanessa Ray, and more. In November 2023, it was announced that the upcoming Season 14, which will air in two parts, will be the show’s final season.

While fans are heartbroken by the news, they can rest easy knowing Season 14 will be the “most satisfying season” of Blue Bloods, as CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach and CBS Studios president David Stapf said in a joint statement, according to Deadline. The final season will likely feature a slew of celebrity guest stars as well as some returning stars and the first confirmed familiar faces. According to the newly released logline for the Season 14 premiere, Malik Yoba will return as Darryl Reid, Danny Reagan’s former partner.

Yoba makes his first and only appearance in the Season 6 episode “Flags of Our Fathers”. In the episode, Darryl was accused of fabricating evidence to ensure that the murderer would be convicted of a brutal double murder and as a result, Danny was questioned by the District Attorney. Throughout the episode, viewers see Danny grapple with turning in his former teammates and consequently letting a murderer walk. However, when an “eye witness” appears, he knows the testimony was coerced by Darryl and he cannot ethically stand aside.

In the first episode of Season 14 titled “Loyalty,” Danny and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) will investigate another murder linked to Darryl. While CBS hasn’t revealed whether he’s connected for good or bad, Darryl’s history of tampering with evidence makes us think it’s the latter. However, the recent incident clearly did not ruin Darryl’s life as he appeared in new photos from the premiere with his son.

Elsewhere in the episode, Jamie (Will Estes) secretly runs a deadly human trafficking ring and appears to have tensions with Hader (played by guest star Aaron Abrams). Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) also questions whether he should publicly support Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) on a policy decision.
