CBS makes a big announcement about the future of Blue Bloods

It’s a bittersweet time for Blue Bloods fans. CBS has confirmed that the beloved Friday night cop show will return in February 2024. However, they have now also confirmed whether the 14th season will be its last. However, that doesn’t mean it will end next May. What is the fate of the program?

Like all network shows, Blue Bloods has been delayed from its planned fall 2023 start due to the combined WGA and SAG strikes. It took a while for the two to be resolved, with the series now returning for Season 14 on Friday, February 16, 2024.

That reduces the usual episode order as the show prepares to return. However, it’s a good news/bad news thing for fans.

The bad news? That season 14 will indeed be the venerable cop show’s last. This is sad but not entirely surprising. Despite its success, Blue Bloods still commanded high prices from CBS due to the salaries of the cast (especially Tom Selleck) and CBS’s need to focus on newer series. The show has been in danger of being canceled for the last few seasons because 14 years for a network drama is quite a long time, even for CBS. The strikes also dealt a blow to the network, who might have thought it better to watch a new series than a show aimed at an older audience.

Why did Blue Bloods end in Season 14?

In a statement, Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, and David Stapf, President of CBS Studios, praised the series.

“Blue Bloods will forever be a beloved part of CBS’s legacy. We will be forever grateful to the legendary Leonard Goldberg for developing this remarkable series and to the wonderful cast led by Tom Selleck, whom Americans embraced like family and viewed as welcome guests. picked up at Reagan’s dinner table. We also sincerely thank the incredible writing and production team, guided by executive producer Kevin Wade, for creating riveting episodes over the years as they shape the final chapter that we I expect it to be the most satisfying season yet for our loyal viewers.”

Tom Selleck himself spoke to the cast about what it feels like to end the show after so long.

“For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and privilege to produce a show that not only honors the men and women who protect and serve in New York City but also demonstrates the importance of family . Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m so grateful to be a part of the non-profit team. usually in over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support, and we extend our sincere thanks to the fans who join us for dinner every Friday night.”

The final statement came from showrunner Kevin Wade, who promised fans a great ending to the series.

“Blue Bloods will leave a lasting legacy forged by our extraordinary cast, our talented and tirelessly creative writers, and the best team in the industry…. We look forward to providing fans with an exciting and emotionally satisfying final season, and we are forever grateful for their enthusiasm and loyalty throughout the years.”

So, sad news for fans as the show is coming to an end. But the silver lining is that it will receive a special departure twice its size in 2024.

When will the final episode of Blue Bloods air?

There is a question as to how many episodes Blue Bloods could get for Season 14. According to TVLine, the final season will now be split in half, with 10 episodes airing in spring 2024 and the final eight episodes saved for next fall.

This is an interesting move because it ensures CBS will have one more show in the fall of 2024 and leaves the cast and writers to prepare for the big send-off. It’s likely that the finale will play out based on the Reagan family’s various dynamics, with Frank still doing his best as NYPD Commissioner.

So while Blue Bloods fans may be sad to hear the series is finally coming to an end, it won’t be until next year that we’ll have enough time to prepare for one last family dinner. Reagan.
