Blue Bloods: 10 characters fans will love to see return

There’s some tension for Blue Bloods fans in the final episodes of Season 11. Not if some danger will befall the Reagans, but if the show will return.

There have been rumors that CBS could eventually cancel the long-running series, but fortunately, those rumors are not true as Blue Bloods will return for season 12 in the fall.

Not much is known about next year, but it will likely continue the trend of focusing on the Reagans and the law while using real-life situations for drama. It may also bring back some old faces from the past.

While Blue Bloods doesn’t evoke as much nostalgia as other long-running CBS shows, there are still plenty of characters from the past who could potentially return. Some have been regular faces that haven’t been seen in a while, while others are recurring characters that have a good presence.

Some are family, others are friends, and still others are outright enemies of the clan. However, they all have the potential to bring new drama to the series. Here are ten characters who would be happy to see the Blue Bloods again to spice up the upcoming season.

Nicky Reagan

It makes sense that when a child grows up, he will leave the nest. Still, it seemed strange not having Erin’s daughter around much.

It’s wonderful to watch Sami Gayle grow as Nicky, from a teenager into a strong young woman. For a time, she seemed to want to join the “family business” as a police officer, which upset her mother who did not want her to be in danger.

Erin also clearly had difficulty accepting her daughter becoming a strong and stubborn woman like her mother.

Nicky has gotten over that but is still a proud supporter, which can sometimes get her into trouble. She left in Season 10 to take a new job in San Francisco and only appeared briefly in Season 11.

While Erin is happy to see her daughter living her own life, it would be nice to have Nicky around more and be able to show off more of her mother’s strength, in the end. will work for the NYPD.

Robert McCoy

Erin is quite busy with her career and has no interest in love. So it would be nice to see a missed flame from her past return.

During a speed dating event, Erin met Robert McCoy and had some flirtation even while they were arguing. It all ends when Erin discovers that McCoy is not a defense attorney but her boss at the DA’s office.

They remained close until it was revealed that McCoy had covered up some of the corruption because one of the police officers involved was a friend of his father. He was forced to resign, but there is a possibility that he could return.

It would be fun to see McCoy as Erin’s defense attorney clash in court, and resisting her attraction to him would add spice to their encounter.

Kevin Kearns

An important part of the Reagan family’s lives was their strong Catholic faith. That makes the appearance of Archbishop Kevin Kearns so wonderful.

With her gruff demeanor, Stacy Keach is believable as Frank’s longtime friend, overseeing such events from each child’s christening to officiating Jamie and Eddie’s wedding.

Kearns may also object to some of the NYPD’s positions on religious issues. He also bristled when he asked Frank to consider the possibility of abuse that could expose a priest who had fathered a child.

The duo’s discussions are always good to show Frank’s morals, however Kearns can be a bit too strict even for Frank. But given all of the Reagan family’s problems, a little divine guidance can always be helpful.

Stan Rourke

It’s surprising we don’t have more conflict between the NYPD and the Fire Department on this show.

With Friends Like Part 6 This episode opens with some cops and cops fighting in Linda’s hospital which turns into a full-fledged brawl.

That brings in Stan Rourke, the fire commissioner, who naturally clashes with Frank over who is responsible for this. Despite mutual respect, it gave rise to a long-standing rivalry between the two departments.

With exciting (no pun intended) fire shows courtesy of the Chicago Fire Department and Station 19, it will be interesting to see more of how they interact with the police and Stan’s help.

Who knows, maybe CBS could launch a NYFD version of Bloods as a spin-off with Rourke in the lead.

Maggie Gibson

Danny’s family thinks it’s time for him to move on after the death of his wife Linda. Maggie Gibson might be the way to do it.

Callie Thorne’s self-proclaimed psychic has offered to help with a case. Naturally, Danny refuses to believe that she’s more than just a con artist but admits that she has insight to help the case.

He is overwhelmed by Maggie’s claims of having spoken to Linda’s spirit, encouraging Danny to continue. Still, Danny is intrigued and even

attracted to the point of wondering if Maggie will have dinner with him.

It’s been a while since she’s been seen, but Maggie will be fun to play and it’ll be interesting to see her and Danny click more. Hopefully Maggie knows better than anyone what the future holds for her and Danny.

Robert Lewis

Throughout last season, Frank had to deal with issues of alleged harassment and corruption in the NYPD. This is an important moment for the return of Robert Lewis.

Played by Sopranos star Michael Imperioli, Lewis is a state prosecutor who seems to be just doing his job of investigating Danny’s shooting of a serial killer.

Lewis revealed his true colors by launching a witch hunt on the NYPD. He openly mocks Frank for being out of touch and even accuses him of covering up corrupt officers when Frank worked with him.

It is unclear whether Lewis attacked because of political motives or personal grudges but crossed the line to pursue Frank. As things stand, Lewis will have more fuel to clash with Frank, and that fight will be an awesome spectacle.

Darnell Potter

He may not be the most famous, but Darnell Potter was the Reagans’ top fighting partner.

The limelight-loving local reverend would always accuse the NYPD of harassment, often without foundation, and was convinced that Frank was covering for corrupt officers. More than once Danny had to refrain from criticizing the guy in front of the camera.

The fiery evangelist may have good intentions but often goes overboard when appearing in the media and angers people. However, he softened when his son was murdered and cooperated with the police to bring the killer to justice.

Given how the series deals with real-life issues of police behavior, it makes sense for Potter to return after so long. The fact that he actually makes sense in some of his words drives that.

That’s just as well because Frank himself noted that Potter is a necessary voice on the issues, no matter how loud it gets.

Kelly Peterson

Played by Broadway veteran Bebe Neuwirth, Kelly Peterson is an essential element in Frank’s life.

The New York Inspector General is not gruff and does not like to play Frank’s usual games. However, he respects her toughness, and there is clear chemistry (supported by a past relationship).

Even the rest of the family encourages Frank to see Kelly as more than just a work acquaintance, but he is reluctant. As it turns out, Kelly resigned because she couldn’t trust herself to be professional enough around Frank.

However, the clash that leads to possible romance is an interesting story for fans. Since Neuwirth isn’t too busy right now, Kelly could have gotten another government job to take her to New York.

Frank is overdue for a romantic relationship if nothing else, and Kelly is one of the best opportunities for it.

Jackie Curtola

As great as Baez was as Danny’s partner, Jackie was his first.

Played by Jennifer Esposito, Jackie is a tough cop who overcame a difficult marriage to become a tenacious investigator. She can handle some cases herself but is more than willing to wipe the floor with some scumbag suspect.

She is imperfect in some of her views but gets along well with the Reagans, including Linda’s friends. Jackie also had to endure some dangers on the job.

She left in season 3 due to Esposito having some real-life health issues on set. It would be fun to meet Jackie and see how she’s doing as well as the combination of Danny’s partners working on the same case.

Anthony Renzulli

Already a veteran of cop shows thanks to NYPD Blue, Nicholas Turturro is a great choice to play Jamie’s first training officer.

Anthony Renzulli

Already a veteran of cop shows thanks to NYPD Blue, Nicholas Turturro is a great choice to play Jamie’s first training officer.

A nice touch to the dynamic is that Renzulli respects Jamie for not relying on them even when he teases Jamie for wanting to be a lawyer before becoming a police officer.

The pair get along well as Renzulli shows Jamie the ropes on the street and gives him essential advice. He makes Jamie see that it’s okay to stick to the book, but it’s okay to bend the rules a little every now and then.

Renzulli was later shot and transferred to a desk job in the area. That was the last we saw of him, but it would have been nice to catch up and see what he was up to.

Perhaps he’s moved on or even retired, but it would be nice if Renzulli checked up on Jamie and was proud of how far his former protégé has come.
