‘Blue Bloods’ season 14 updates: When will it return and more
CBS’s long-running police drama Blue Bloods will return for a 14th season, but the ongoing writers and actors strike has caused some setbacks.
With that in mind, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming season of the hit TV series starring Donnie Wahlberg.
When will Season 14 air?
Unfortunately, Season 14 won’t hit our screens until 2024 at the earliest. The show was originally scheduled to begin filming in July 2023 with a target fall premiere. However, due to strikes by the WGA and SAG, production was stopped.
But fans can rest assured that Season 14 will happen because CBS confirmed the renewal just before the premiere of Season 13’s finale. And it’s no real surprise since the series is one of the the most popular series on the network, ranking as the number three broadcast drama with 9.40 million viewers.
Who will return?
The majority of the main players will return for Season 14, including Wahlberg as Detective Danny Reagan and Tom Selleck as Danny’s father, Police Commissioner Frank Reagan.
Additionally, Bridget Moynahan is back as Chief of Staff for New York City District Attorney Erin Reagan’s Office; Will Estes once again plays Sergeant Jamie Reagan; Len Cariou returns as retiring commissioner Henry Reagan; and Marisa Ramirez returns as Danny’s partner, Maria Baez.
Another character we might see again is Jennifer Esposito’s Jackie Curatola, who made a surprise return in Season 13. Esposito left the show in 2012 due to her battle with Celiac disease. It’s not yet confirmed if she’ll return for Season 14, but her character definitely has unfinished business with Danny.
What is the plot of season 14?
While there’s no official synopsis for Season 14 yet, fans can make some assumptions based on the events of the previous season. As mentioned earlier, Jackie’s return could potentially lead to a sequel, as she’s now working as Sheriff in Suffolk County, with Danny helping her track down an elusive serial killer.
There’s also Erin’s bid for District Attorney of New York. She withdrew her name from the running in Season 13, but it’s clear she hasn’t completely given up on that dream.
Elsewhere, we’re sure to see Frank continue his battle with city officials as he tries to keep an eye on his family.
Is Blue Bloods currently airing?
While fans will have to wait for Season 14, CBS will air reruns of classic episodes, starting Friday, September 29, in the show’s regular 10/9c timeslot.
Last month, CBS asked viewers to vote from a curated list highlighting memorable character arcs, key character introductions, and some of the stellar guest stars that have appeared on the show throughout 13 years of broadcasting. Additionally, as TV Insider reported last month, the show’s episodes from previous seasons are available to watch for free on the Pluto TV streaming service.
