Tom Selleck is not ready for Blue Bloods to end and neither are the fans. The long-running CBS procedural is coming to a close following the upcoming Season 14, which will air in two parts. See Tom Selleck’s true thoughts on the show ending below.

Blue Bloods is CBS’ popular police procedural. It focuses on the fictional Reagan family who have a long history with law enforcement. The series first premiered in September 2010 and has anchored CBS’ Friday night lineup ever since. The Magnum, P.I. alum stars on the show as New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, the patriarch of the Reagan family. Rounding out the cast is Donny Wahlberg, Will Estes, Bridget Moynahan, Marisa Ramirez, Len Cariou and Vanessa Ray.

In November 2023, CBS announced that the Blue Bloods will end after the two-part Season 14. At the time, Selleck said it was an “honor and a privilege” to work on the show for the past 13 years and thanked fans who “gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

In a recent interview with TV Insider, however, the star was more candid when discussing the show’s conclusion. “CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” he told the outlet. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year.” He added: “We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

Selleck went on to say that he is not ready to retire from the show or acting just yet. “I’m not counting the days so I can do something else,” he explained. “I love the work. Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what? I want work as long as they’ll have me.” The actor also noted that Frank isn’t quite ready to turn in his badge either. “He picks fights because he’d like somebody to take the weight of this responsibility [off] his hands and fire him,” Selleck said of his character, “but he has a hyperactive sense of responsibility and he’s stuck with it.

The rest of the cast have yet to speak about the show’s final bow, but several cast members have shared behind-the-scenes footage from Season 14, which is set to premiere on Feb. 16, 2024. In early January 2024, Donnie Wahlberg, who stars as Danny Reagan, shared a video of the whole Reagan family posing for a photo by the iconic dinner table. The video was set to a melodic cover of “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” and was captioned: “Blue Bloods Family❤️💙.”

In a press conference about their fall schedule, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach reiterated Blue Bloods would end its run this fall after 14 seasons.

“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” Reisenbach told reporters. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give show the sendoff it deserves.”

Aware that the cast has asked CBS to reconsider its decision, Reisenbach said, “We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

Blue Bloods revolves around the Reagan family, who have a history of working in law enforcement in NYC. Selleck co-stars with Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, and Len Cariou.
