Blue Bloods Stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan Share Emotional Thoughts on Show’s Ending

Blue Bloods actors Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Monahan are bidding a bittersweet farewell to the CBS drama series. During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Wahlberg and Monahan shared a clip from the 14th and final season currently airing, showcasing the Reagan family gathering for their traditional Sunday dinner.

Barrymore inquired about their emotions as the series draws to a close. “I think everybody’s really upset and sad but so happy and satiated,” she asked. “More upset and sad,” Wahlberg responded. When co-host Ross Matthews asked about the experience of bidding farewell to the characters, Monahan shared, “I think it’s more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters. We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew. Most of the crew’s been with us for 14 years, so we’ve been through a lot of weddings, births, deaths, and everything. We’ve been through it all with each other.”

In November, Deadline reported that Blue Bloods would conclude with an 18-episode Season 14, split into two parts, with 10 episodes airing this spring and eight in the fall. Despite efforts from several cast members, including star executive producer Tom Selleck, to extend the show’s run, CBS is sticking to the plan for an eight-episode final installment. Selleck expressed uncertainty about the reported eight-episode wind-down, telling USA Today, “We’ll see.” He emphasized his love for the show and willingness to do what’s best for the situation; however, he hinted at potential conflict with CBS’s plans.
