Tumi Mhlongo has joined Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 as the new chief steward. Could she be the new Hannah Ferrier and have a permanent role?

Tumi Mhlongo has been announced as the new chief steward on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8, potentially filling the beloved Hannah Ferrier’s shoes.
Tumi’s previous experience as a second steward on Below Deck Down Under season 1 suggests she has the skills for the job, despite potential tension with her interior crew.
Viewers will have to wait and see if Tumi can impress fans the way Hannah did, but there is hope that she could become a long-term member of the show.

The new cast of Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 has been announced, with Tumi Mhlongo as the chief steward; could she be the new Hannah Ferrier? Viewers first met Tumi when she joined Below Deck Down Under season 1 as a second steward under Aesha Scott. Tumi was beloved during the season, and many were shocked when she didn’t return for season 2. However, she was clearly busy filming another series in a more senior role.

The trailer for Below Deck Med season 8 was released last week, revealing Tumi as the season’s new chief stew. Along with Tumi, Captain Sandy Yawn will be returning at the helm, along with Kyle Viljoen and Natalya Scudder as stews. Luka Brunton from Below Deck Down Under season 2 will also join as a deckhand. The newbies include Chef Jack Luby, Bosun Ruan Irving, deckhands Haleigh Gorman and Lara Du Preez, and stew Jessika Asai.

Tumi was revealed as the new chief stew for Below Deck Med season 8 during the trailer. Since season 5, the series has had a difficult time casting the perfect chief stew. Hannah was beloved by the fanbase, and many were upset when she decided to exit the show. Even though Hannah had a baby and was crucified and fired by Sandy during her last season for having prescription Valium on board, it was sad to see another mainstay leave the franchise. However, judging by the new trailer, Tumi will do a great job of filling in Hannah’s shoes.

Could Tumi Be The New Permanent Chief Stew?

Tumi could very well become the new permanent chief stew on Below Deck Med. Not only does she have ties to another Below Deck show, but she also made an excellent second stew during her time on Below Deck Down Under. Aesha raved about Tumi any chance she could. Even though it seems like there will be some tension between Tumi and her interior crew judging by the trailer, sometimes the chief stew needs to get a little mean to earn everyone’s respect, similar to how Hannah ran her team on the show.

In two weeks, viewers will get to watch Tumi as a chief stew on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8. While she will likely be a great addition to the show, only time will tell if she will be able to wow the fans the way Hannah did. Hopefully Tumi becomes a mainstay after this season.
