Is Jennifer Esposito Returning to the ‘Blue Bloods’ Cast for Good?
She rejoined the cast for the season 13 finale.
You may have noticed a familiar face in the Blue Bloods season 13 finale on Friday, May 19. Danny Reagan’s (Donnie Wahlberg) former partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), is back after when he left the show 10 years ago. Now, the question remains: Is Jennifer Esposito returning to Blue Bloods for good?
As a refresher show, Blue Bloods is a police procedural on CBS. The film follows the Reagan family, all of whom are deeply involved in the New York City Police Department. Jackie joined the show during its first season in 2010. She remained Danny’s partner for three seasons, until being written off the show after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease. According to TVLine, there was tension between Jennifer and the network because the actress claimed the studio held her under contract and suspended her without pay before replacing her.
“Look, they have a job to get done. I get it,” she told FOX Files. “Don’t you think I could do that in the two or three days I suggested in that… eight-day workspace? Then I understand, you have to replace me. But that’s not what happened. What happened was so ugly.”
Considering the drama surrounding Jennifer’s exit from the show, many people assumed they would never see her get back together with Danny. Alas, the network has different ideas. In the season 13 finale, Jackie reunites with Danny on the set of Blue Bloods when both she and Danny have victims with the same MO. While fans are excited to see Jackie back on their screens, it’s unclear whether it’s a cameo or an actual return.
Regardless, it looks like Jennifer had a great time during her rare appearance. On the finale, she shared a few shout-outs for the show on Twitter.
Then, the next day, she thanked Blue Bloods fans for all their support, despite not mentioning anything about a return.
Of course, there were a lot of comments from people saying how much they missed her character. “I’m so glad Jackie is back,” one person said. “You and Donnie have great chemistry on screen. Do you think they would ask you back, they should after the way they treated you,” another said. “You and Donny are amazing together..I hope you stay together for a few more years,” another wrote.
It’s worth mentioning, Jackie isn’t the only one surprising fans. Nicky and Jack also sat at the Reagan family dinner table. The last time we saw Nicky was in Season 11, while the last time we saw Jack was in the first episode of season 12. So now it’s not just a matter of whether we can expect Jackie becomes a main character in season 14 or not, but it’s also a matter of cousins.
