Donnie Wahlberg on why he feels fans deserve the right ending: Quotes about Blue Bloods
Donnie Wahlberg in ‘Blue Bloods’ (2024)
Wahlberg, who plays NYPD detective, Danny Reagan, knows that his time on the 14-season series must end the right way. Loyal fans who have tuned in since 2010, he feels, deserve proper closure for the characters and their storylines.
Wahlberg spoke about the potential renewal of the series prior to the announcement of season 14. “I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged. They’re part of the Reagan family. The audience is the extended family,” Wahlberg explained. “If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff … I think they would be mortified.”
Wahlberg has starred on the series from its very start in 2010 and, 293 episodes later, he is saying goodbye to Danny Reagan. Although a bit of a hothead, Danny is beloved and rooted for.
Why Tom Selleck believes it’s not over for the series
Tom Selleck in ‘Blue Bloods’
Police Commissioner Frank Reagan is portrayed by none other than Tom Selleck. The actor had a similar role on his series, Magnum, P.I., where he played private eye Thomas Magnum. The experienced actor, whose career began in the late 1960s, seems to think it may not be the end of Frank Reagan and Blue Bloods.
“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck shared in May 2024. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place.”
After 14 years on Blue Bloods, Selleck and his other castmates are not ready to say goodbye to their tight-knit Reagan family.
