Tom Selleck says he’ll do “whatever it takes” to renew Blue Bloods

Tom Selleck says he’ll do “whatever it takes” to renew Blue Bloods

The legendary actor has not given up the fight.

Tom Selleck has not said his last word about Blue Bloods. The actor has been extremely outspoken about the show’s future, despite the fact that CBS has confirmed that it will not be coming back next season. The network fully plans to wrap up the story of the Reagan family after a decade and a half, but the patriarch of said family, is maintaining hope that things will change.

Selleck, a first ballot TV hall of famer, was recently profiled by Esquire. He talked about his career and his private life, but the topic he was most keen to discuss was, you guessed it, Blue Bloods.

Tom Selleck believes CBS will change its mind

Forgive Us Our Trespasses
“Forgive Us Our Trespasses” – Danny and Baez team up with Danny’s old partner, Jackie Curatola (Jennifer Esposito), to find a copycat killer emulating murders from a previous case. Also, Frank and Mayor Chase (Dylan Walsh) battle over how best to handle the city’s rising homeless population; and Jamie, Eddie and Erin team up to build evidence against a previously released man who they believe is again committing criminal assault, on the 13th season finale of BLUE BLOODS, Friday, May 19 /

He knows that CBS is content to pull the plug, and has been for over a year. It has not deterred him from pushing for its renewal. If anything, it’s emboldened him:

“What’s the future of Blue Bloods? CBS will tell you it’s ending. I think they’re going to come to their senses. I certainly wish they would. I’m going to do whatever it takes.”

This is not the first time the actor has criticized the network for not taking ratings into account. During a recent appearance on CBS Sunday Morning, Selleck pointed out that Blue Bloods is doing as well as ever with audiences.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” he told the host. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows.” To his credit, Blue Bloods has continued to be a solid ratings hit for CBS despite being in its 14th season.

Selleck has also been forthright about the fact that he’d like to keep working to maintain the 60 acre ranch he currently lives on in California. “You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold onto the place,” he told CBS Sunday Morning. “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

While we remain skeptical that Blue Bloods will actually get renewed, we applaud Selleck’s efforts and hope he eventually wins the network over!
